Campaigning for the Gujarat Assembly election is gaining momentum. All the parties are making every effort to woo the voters in their favour. On an average, voters in the state have been voting more than 60 percent.”Voters have always been voting thoughtfully in Gujarat. The existing number of assembly seats was increased to 182 in 1975. The highest voter turnout of about 72 percent was recorded in 2012 election. At the same time, the lowest voter turnout of about 48 percent took place in 1980 and 1985 assembly elections. Around 69 percent of the voters cast their votes in the last assembly elections.In Gujrat, there were one crore 39 lakh voters in 1975. The number of voters has increased to 4 crore 35 lakh in 2017. In the current election, around 4 crore 91 lakh voters will exercise their franchise.Talking about the number of candidates in Gujarat, their numbers are also increasing from election to election. The maximum number of 2 thousand 545 candidates were in the 1995 elections while the lowest 852 candidates were in the 1975 election. In the last assembly election in 2017, 1 thousand 828 candidates were in the fray.
