Union Govt making all-out efforts to ensure release of 16 Indian crew members of Norwegian vessel MT Heroic Idun: V Muraleedharan

The Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan today said, the Union Government is making all-out efforts to ensure the release of the 16 Indian crew members of the Norwegian vessel MT Heroic Idun, detained by the authorities of Equatorial Guinea last August. The vessel has been subsequently handed over to the Nigerian authorities and is on its way to Nigeria.Mr Muraleedharan was speaking to media persons in Kochi after visiting the family of a  crew member in the city. The Minister said that he spoke to the Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria today and added that the embassy officials would seek permission from the Nigerian authorities to meet the crew after the vessel reached that country.He said, the Government is in constant touch with the detained crew members. The vessel has a 26-member crew, of which 16 are Indian nationals.
