The Enforcement Directorate today conducted raids at multiple locations in Ranchi. A huge amount of cash has been seized amounting to more than 26 crore rupees from the household help of Sanjiv Lal, PS to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam in the Virendra Ram arrest case.
The central probe agency arrested Virendra Kumar Ram, Chief Engineer at the Jharkhand Rural Development Department in February 2023 in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in implementing some of the government schemes. The ED team has raided nine locations including Sail City in Ranchi. A team of ED is also searching the whereabouts of Vikas Kumar, engineer of the road construction department in Sail City. The second team has raided Bariatu, Morhabadi and Boreya areas of the State capital in the same case.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a huge amount of cash recovery by ED stated that the central agencies are working against corruption. On the contrary, Congress State President Rajesh Thakur commented that the Congress party has no connection with this recovery, as it has been recovered from a servant’s house.
ED raids are still underway at six locations in Ranchi. Huge amount of cash has been recovered. According to sources, bank officials have been facing difficulties in counting of seized denominations of notes so far, as there has been continuous power-cuts in the specific area.
Apart from cash seizure of over 30 crore rupees, several important documents including confidential government letters and transfer posting lists have also been recovered from household help of Sanjiv Lal, PS to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. ED has covered 6 premises linked to Jharkhand Minister and his aides.
