Odisha Heat Wave: Baripada Reaches Record 46.4°C; Multiple Cities Exceed 44°C

The scorching heat wave gripping Odisha has severely disrupted daily life with temperature soaring to alarming level with every passing day. Baripada in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha recorded 46.4 degree celsius today, an all time record for this northern city of the state. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), 15 cities in Odisha have recorded more than 44 degree celsius today. The coastal city of Balasore recorded 46 degree celsius, while the state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 45.4 degree celsius. As many as 29 cities of the state have recorded 42 degree celsius or more.
 
The IMD scientists at Bhubaneswar have advised the people to stay indoors between 11 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon due to the prevailing hot and humid conditions. It has also issued red warnings for the next two days in many districts of the state. Meanwhile, the unbearable heat wave compelled residents to stay indoors, leading to deserted roads in the cities during the day time.
