The Chief Minister of Manipur announced that fifteen thousand four hundred twenty-five houses in thirteen districts of Manipur were damaged by the heavy rainfall accompanied by a hailstorm yesterday. He said that the State Government has allocated rupees six crore ninety lakh from the State Disaster Relief Funds to assist the affected families and forty-two relief camps have been opened for the affected families.
Briefing a press conference this evening at Imphal, the Chief Minister said that the State Government has already started providing GI Sheet, Tarpaulin and other essential items to the affected families. He said that the Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts were badly affected by the hail storm yesterday. Mr. Biren said that the Government will provide financial assistance to those killed and injured in the lightning incident. It may be mentioned that one person was killed when another was injured in the lightning incident yesterday.
Considering the grave situation and weather forecast, the State Government announced a holiday for two days beginning today in all schools of the State.
Meanwhile, the State Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has informed all the district administration to control the price of the GI Sheets and other essential items in the market. The Department has been instructed to monitor the market and take legal action against those whosoever is found selling these items at inflated prices.
