Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency in Telangana State will go to polls along with 16 other seats in the State on the 13th of this month during the fourth phase of the election. More than 22 lakh electors will decide the political landscape of Hyderabad this time. Though there are 30 candidates including Independents in the fray of the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, the fight is likely to take place between the incumbent Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM and Madhavilata of the BJP.

Akashwani Correspondent reports that the world-famous Charminar, Golkonda Fort and the GI-tagged lac bangles are …… a few of the famous in Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency. Like others in the State, Hyderabad has Seven assembly segments including Malakpet, Caravan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayana Gutta, Yakutpura and Bahadur Pura and they are all in the capital city of Hyderabad. Ever since the constituency was formed in 1952, elections have been held 17 times and All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen won for 9 times in a row since 1989. Incumbent Asaduddin Owaisi, the third president of AIMIM has won the seat four times in a row making the constituency a stronghold for his party. His father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi won from this seat six times in a row, including once as an independent. Asaduddin has been increasing his majority, election after election and he got 63.9 per cent polled votes during the last election even as the voter turnout dipped to less than 45 per cent in Hyderabad. But it was possible only after he faced a fierce fight from Bhagavanth Rao of the BJP. Present BJP Candidate, Madhavi Latha, a social worker who is also in the hospital business was relatively less known in political circles till her name was announced in the BJP candidates list. She played a key role in the campaign against instant triple talaq, which was outlawed by Parliament. Both MIM and BJP candidates are focussing on door-to-door campaigns in the small lines and by-lanes of the constituency. Madhavi Latha is raising the lack of development in the constituency, employment to the poor women and youth and questioning the electoral practices of the incumbent while Owaisi is seeking votes to continue the development that he has already initiated. Controversial statements from both sides and cases being registered for violation of the model code of conduct helped to some extent for polarisation of votes. However, the ruling Congress party fielded its district president Sameer Waliullah while the BRS fielded an educationist Gaddam Srinivas Yadav in Hyderabad. BJP top leaders including Amit Shah, Anurag Singh Thakur, and Rajyavardhan Rathode are only a few star campaigners who campaigned so far in Hyderabad in support of their candidate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit before the end of the campaigning. With all 30 candidates in the fray focussing on the high-profile constituency, it is yet to be seen who will benefit from the polarisation in Hyderabad
