In Assam, the 3rd and final phase voting for the 4 parliamentary constituencies’ passes off peacefully with a voter turnout around 74.86 percent till the time of filing of this report.
In this final phase in the State, voting were held at Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar (ST). In this phase 47 candidates were in fray. There are 12 candidates in the Kokrajhar seat, 13 in Dhubri, 14 in Barpeta and eight in Guwahati.
BJP has fielded its candidate only in Guwahati in this phase and its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal ( UPPL) in the remaining three seats. The AGP contested at Barpeta and in Dhubri while UPPL at the Kokrajhar (ST) seat. On the other hand, the Congress contested in all four seats.
Chief Electoral Officer, Assam informed that voting were held at 9516 polling stations amid tight security and webcasting in around 55 percent polling stations. Polling officials are bringing back the EVMs to the strong rooms with GPS enabled tracking vehicles after the successful conclusion of voting.
