NCW Calls For Protection Of Women’s Complaints In Sandeshkhali Amid Election

Share on:

National Commission for Women (NCW) today urged the Election Commission to ensure that women in Sandeshkhali should not withdraw their complaints due to the threat from TMC workers. In a letter to the poll body, the NCW said that the women in Sandeshkhali are being influenced, threatened and pressurised to withdraw their complaint in the middle of general elections 2024. Asserting that this potentially impacts the fairness of the election process in the area, the NCW asked the poll panel to direct the authorities to take appropriate action in the matter.

The NCW added that the committee constituted to investigate the facts of the case had met with several women in Sandeshkhali who alleged that they were sexually assaulted by the associates of TMC’s Sheikh Shahjahan who is prime accused in the case. It said, it also received several complaints in writing by the women of Sandeshkhali.
