In Telangana, the value of cash, liquor and other freebies meant for inducement of voters that have been seized by authorities has crossed the 200-crore rupees mark. The Election authorities informed that, the value of the total seizures since last month, a fortnight before the announcement of the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections reached over 202 crore 52 lakh rupees till yesterday.
Of these, the cash seizures accounted for over 76 crore rupees while over 15 lakh litres of liquor valued about 44 crore rupees was seized. For the first time, the Commercial Taxes Department too chipped in with seizures of 245 litres of liquor valued over 21 lakh rupees. Besides, drugs and narcotics worth over 26 crore rupees, precious metals worth over 29 crore rupees and freebies like laptops and bikes worth about 27 crore rupees were also seized by various enforcement agencies in the state.
