In Mizoram, heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and hailstorms wreaked havoc in the State destroying at least 1400 houses and rendering several families homeless in the last few days. Strong winds and hailstorms also destroyed property, vegetable crops and standing trees. Mizoram will have inclement weather for the next few days due to western disturbances.
Speaking to Akashvani News, Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi, Director, Meteorological Centre, Aizawl said due to west disturbances, the State will witness moderate to heavy rainfalls with thunderstorms and lightning. He advised people not to venture out and to remain at home.
Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Authority is closely monitoring the situation and relief materials are being arranged for the victims. All 11 districts of the State have been affected by the pre-monsoon thunderstorm, along with strong winds and hailstorms.
