Former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS President K Chandrashekar Rao concluded his public meeting at Mahabubabad last evening before 8 PM, as directed by Election Commission of India that barred him from campaigning for 48 hours for his derogatory remarks made last month. He was on 8th day of Bus Yatra when the 48-hour ban came into force at 8 pm last evening.

Popularly known as KCR,  Mr Rao has been barred by ECI from campaigning for 48 hours for his derogatory remarks against Congress, thus violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The ECI strongly condemned KCR’s impugned statements and barred him from holding any public meetings, public processions, public rallies, shows and interviews, and public utterances in media in connection with the ongoing election for two days. The Congress had complained to the Commission on 6th of last month about certain objectionable remarks issued by KCR at a press meet in Sircilla town.

The commission had earlier issued a show-cause notice to KCR over the alleged remarks. Responding to the notice on 23rd last month, KCR however, denied the charge. He pointed out that the meaning of his original statement has been lost in translation. He also said a few sentences were picked up out of context. He further stated that he had confined his criticism to the policies and programmes of the Congress and not gone into personal aspects of any Congress leader. After going through the content of the Congress complaint and KCR’s reply, the commission found that the BRS chief had violated the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.
