Bangalore Political Action Committee, which is a non-political citizens group, held a panel discussion in Bengaluru yesterday on the reasons for low voter turnout in the three constituencies of Bengaluru during the Lok Sabha election held on the 26th of April. During the past six elections in these constituencies from 2014 to 2024, the Voter Turnout Ratio has declined from 56.01 per cent to 53.96 per cent.

Speaking during the panel discussion, the National Coordinator of Lokniti Network Dr Sandeep Shastri opined that the low turnout in Bengaluru could be due to voter apathy, extended weekends and also due to the floating population that went to villages or other towns to vote in their respective native places.

The President of Bangalore Apartment Federation Vikram Rai felt that the block-level officials in the municipal offices do not update the electoral roll as and when the registered electorate shifts from one place to another. He noted that there is a high degree of scope for the deletion of names in the electoral roll. The Managing Trustee and CEO of BPAC Revathy Ashok felt that the civic organisations should work with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike officials to update the electoral roll. The analysis was made of the voter turnout in Bangalore North, South and Central Lok Sabha constituencies.
