Indian Women’s Team Advance To Quarterfinals Of Uber Cup Badminton Tournament

The Indian women’s team have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Uber Cup badminton tournament with a 4-1 victory over Singapore in Chengdu, China on Sunday. India lost the opening match of the second tie in Group A, with Ashmita Chaliha losing to world No. 18 Yeo Jia Min 15-21, 18-21 in the first singles. Later, national champions Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra defeated Xiao En Heng and Jin Yu Jia, 21-15, 21-16 to bring India back. Isharani Baruah extended India’s lead by defeating Insyirah Khan, 21-13, 21-16 second singles. Later in the second doubles match, Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker delivered a brilliant performance in a 21-8, 21-11 victory over Yi Ting Elsa Lai and Zan Michelle, while in the final game, Anmol Kharb prevailed over Lee Xin Megan, 21-15, 21-13, giving India a commanding 4-1 lead.

Indian Women’s team now ranks second in Group A, trailing only China. The two teams will clash in their final group match on Tuesday to decide the table toppers. Earlier, India had defeated Canada, 4-1 in the opening tie yesterday.
 

Meanwhile in the Thomas Cup competition, featuring the men, defending champions India will face England tomorrow in their second Group C tie. India had defeated Thailand 4-1 in the opening tie.
