Union Secretary For I&B And Chairman Of TRAI Inaugurates AVIA Future Of Video India Conference In Mumbai

Union Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Sanjay Jaju and Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Anil Kumar Lahoti today inaugurated the Asia Video Industry Association’s (AVIA) Future of Video India conference in Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, the Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting envisions propelling the Indian Media and Entertainment industry to achieve a robust market size of USD 100 billion, significantly surpassing its current approximate valuation of USD 28-30 billion. He added that ambitious vision is anchored on strategic initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, driving growth, and capitalizing on emerging opportunities within the sector.
 

Speaking about the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023, which is intended to replace the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, Shri Jaju said the Bill aims to streamline regulatory processes, ensure a balanced playing field among different services and service providers, and introduce provisions for emerging technologies while keeping in mind the differences between the technologies, business models and citizen’s issues related to various stakeholders.
 

On the occasion, the TRAI chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said as a regulator, the role of TRAI is to provide a level playing field for all players without any discrimination. He added that TRAI also strives to provide good services to consumers at an affordable price.
