In Sri Lanka, the Kumbhabhishekam at Seetha Amman temple – Seetha Eliya was held today with great devotion. About 25 litres of holy Saryu water which was flown in from Ayodhya for the ceremony was used for the abhishekam of the gopura of the temple. In addition, 5000 laddoos from Tirumala Tirupati Temple and several artefacts were brought in from various temples of India as well as Nepal’s Janakpur.
On the occasion, devotees from several parts of India and Nepal joined devotees in Sri Lanka as the temple is part of the Ramayana trail. Seetha Eliya or Ashok Vatika is believed to be the location where Sita was kept hostage by Ravana.
