The Embassy of India in Bahrain marked the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, 2024, with a series of events centered around the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”The main celebration took place at Khalifa Sports City Stadium, where hundreds of yoga enthusiasts gathered for a session organized by the Embassy in collaboration with Bahrain’s General Sports Authority. Ambassador Vinod K. Jacob attended as the Chief Guest. In the lead-up to the main event, the Embassy hosted a curtain-raiser on May 31, 2024, featuring Embassy officials, yoga students, instructors, and physical education teachers from local schools. The Embassy has also been conducting weekly yoga classes since March 9, 2024, to promote wellness and raise awareness about yoga’s benefits.
Participants were encouraged to enter the Prime Minister’s Awards for Yoga and the Yoga with Family Video Contest, both initiatives of India’s Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. The International Day of Yoga, first proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was established by the United Nations in December 2014. The resolution, endorsed by 175 member states, recognizes yoga’s universal appeal and its potential to unite mind, body, and spirit. Embassy officials expressed gratitude to Bahrain’s leadership, the General Sports Authority, and the people of Bahrain for their support in organizing these events.
