Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inspected the Majua landslide site in the Rangang-Yangang Constituency, Namchi District on Saturday. At the relief camp at the Tourism Centre, Yangang Helipad, he distributed ex-gratia, SGAY allotment orders, financial grants, and other relief materials.
The landslide on June 10 claimed three lives and destroyed several houses and livestock. The CM announced half an acre of cultivable land and 5 lakh rupees each for families who lost their homes.
He also directed the Roads and Bridges Department to restore the road to Majua quickly. Accompanied by several officials, the CM assured full government support for the affected families.
In North Sikkim, due to inclement weather, stranded tourists from North Sikkim could not be airlifted today.
Seven tourists from Kerala were evacuated on foot from Dzongu. Tourism Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia met with officials to plan further evacuations. Relief and rescue operations are continuing, but some areas remain inaccessible due to road blockages.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working to restore connectivity, clearing significant blockages using heavy equipment.
