Rajasthan is witnessing an intense heat wave with day temperature over 45 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state. On Saturday (18th May 2024), Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature of 46.9 degrees Celsius. Apart from Barmer, Pilani recorded day temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer, Karauli, Ganganagar and Jalore also reeled under intense heat with recording temperature of 46.2 degrees Celsius, and Fatehpur recorded a maximum temperature of 46.1 degrees Celsius.
Akashvani correspondent reports that many cities of the state including Bharatpur, Kota, Jodhpur, Churu, Bikaner, Dholpur, Baran and Sangaria measured day temperature above 45 degree celsius. NIght temperature was also recorded above 30 degrees celsius in Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Kota, Jalore and Dholpur. The minimum temperature in Phalodi measured at 34.6 degrees.
Due to the scorching heat, people are avoiding going out of the houses during the day. At some places, water was sprinkled on the roads to protect against the heat. The Water Supply Department has given instructions to ensure the availability of tankers for sprinkling water along with drinking water. According to the Met department, the heat wave is likely to continue in the state for the next one week.
