Munshi Habibullah Mission Higher Secondary School (MHMHSS) in Kargil hosted a vibrant Traditional Dress Festival on Saturday, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the region. The event featured students and faculty in traditional attire and included a variety of cultural programmes.
Imteeaz Kacho, Joint Director of Information, Ladakh, and Additional Secretary for Higher Education, attended as the chief guest and SD Namgail, Chief Education Officer of Kargil, was the guest of honour. Other notable attendees included local councillors, district officers, and members of the school’s administration and faculty.
In his address, Kacho praised the school’s dedication to the Rewa Na KASCO initiative, which supports specially-abled children. He emphasized the importance of the community’s role in supporting these children and highlighted the school’s efforts in preserving cultural heritage through events like ethnic food and dress festivals.
Kacho also encouraged the use of storytelling and songs to promote local culture, referencing the Information Department’s magazine, ‘Kargil Samzod,’ which regularly features content on the Ladakhi alphabet. He lauded the confidence and presentation skills of event host Imdad and called for reducing homework and the burden of school bags, aligning with the National Education Policy.
Director Gulzar Hussain Munshi and Assistant Director Sarvar Hussain Munshi welcomed the guests with traditional khataqs. Principal Dr. Vincy Abraham noted the record participation of nearly 800 students in the ramp walk and praised the collective efforts of the school community in making the event a success.
The festival included ramp walks by students from Rewa Na KASCO and the lower wing of the school, along with song and dance performances representing various regions, including Kerala, Punjab, and Nepal, displaying the students’ enthusiasm and cultural pride.
