In Maharashtra, at least five persons were killed and 42 others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims hit a tractor on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The accident took place around midnight near Panvel in Navi Mumbai. The bus was carrying 54 devotees who were on their way to Pandharpur for the Ashadhi Ekadashi celebrations. Officials said that after colliding with the tractor, the bus crashed into a barricade on the expressway and plunged into a 20-feet-deep gorge. The injured pilgrims were rushed to the hospital, with seven of them in serious condition.
