In Kerala, heavy rains pounded the northern parts of the State since last evening, throwing normal life out of gear at several places. IMD has issued orange alert in the districts of Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall. Yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.
Severe water logging is witnessed in the low lying regions. Landslides are being reported in the Idukki district with no casualties. In Thrissur, many low lying areas were flooded. A fisherman went missing after his boat overturned at Shankhumukham in Thiruvananthapuram. The authorites have cautioned the public to remain alert in view of the possibility of the rains continuing for the next couple of hours. Fishing is prohibited in the south Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts till tomorrow.
