The Consulate General of France in Puducherry conducted the election for selecting 81 members for the European Parliament, an arm of the European Union, yesterday. In total, four polling booths – two in Puducherry, one each in Karaikal and Chennai – were established for the election. The polling took place yesterday from 8 am to 6 pm. There were 4,546 French Citizens in the electoral roll in the region which includes Puducherry, Tamilnadu and Kerala. The voters in Kerala had to vote in anyone of the four polling stations mentioned above. In total, 945 French Citizens were casted their votes.
