Flash Flood Continues To Wreak Havoc In Manipur

In Manipur, the flash flood continues to wreak havoc in Manipur. Imphal City has been badly affected by the flood. Most of the roads leading to Imphal town have been submerged. The Rajbhavan and surrounding areas have also been submerged in the water. The Khwairamband Ima Market and other markets look deserted as water is inundated in the area.
 
 
The Manipur Police, Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF and SDRF have been pressed in rescue operations. The Loktak Development Authority also joined in the rescue works and around 800 persons have been shifted to the safer area. In Senapati district, the dead body of a woman who drowned in the river yesterday has been recovered today. Three temporary camps have already been opened in the district for the flood-affected families.
 
 
The State Government announced a general holiday for all Government offices including PSUs, autonomous bodies, banks and financial institutions for today and tomorrow considering the situation in the State. The State Higher and Technical Education also ordered the closure of the higher educational institutes including government-aided and private till 1st June. A round-the-clock control room has been set up to assist the flood-affected people.
 
 
Meanwhile, the IMD Centre in Imphal has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in most of the districts of Manipur for the next two days.
