Cyclone Storm Remal-induced heavy rainfall across the state continues to wreak havoc, and all the rivers in Manipur are flowing at the danger level. The torrential rainfall triggered numerous mudslides and landslides in different areas of the state, affecting key transportation routes. The Irang Bailey Bridge, constructed at Taobam Village of Noney district over the Irang River along National Highway 37, Imphal Jiribam Road, collapsed this evening. The State Education Department ordered the closure of all schools in Manipur for three days starting from tomorrow.
The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in most districts of Manipur until tomorrow. Speaking to Akashvani News, K. Ambedkar, Scientist D of Meteorological Centre IMD Imphal, said that four valley districts along with a hill district are expected to receive heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the district administration of rainfall-affected districts of Manipur has issued advisories, informing the general public to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel in the coming hours.
