Coastal areas of South and North 24 Parganas, Sunderban areas receiving rainfall with gusting wind with speed 50-60 km/h. Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly two 24 Parganas, Nadia are also getting rainfall with gusting wind with less speed. One elderly woman named Renuka Mondal (80) died on Mausuni Island in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal yesterday when a tree fall on the mud house she was sitting in.
All the creeks of Sunderban have seen inflated water with high level of water in the rivers going to Bay of Bengal.
On the other hand train services of Sealdah have been restored in South section and Barasat – Hasnabad line. Howrah – Amta local has been cancelled in the Howrah division.
The truncated Metro Rail service is being operated between Dakshineswar and Girish Park, as well as between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Kabi Subhash. Many trees have been uprooted in city Kolkata and North and South 24 Parganas districts. Many streets are water logged due to incessant rain.
Campaign activities for the last phase of Lok Sabha election in the Kolkata and Basirhat, Diamond Harbour parliamentary constituencies have been affected.
In North Bengal Malda and Dakshin Dinajpur districts are receiving rainfall. Rain forecast is there in Alipurduar, Coochbehar and Darjeeling districts today.
