In Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency, 27 candidates have emerged to contest in the upcoming elections after the completion of nomination process.
A spokesman of Chandigarh electoral office said that on the last day of filing nomination papers 20 candidates filed 23 nominations and a total of 33 nominations were received. Out of them, nominations of 27 were accepted. He said that among 27 candidates, 5 candidates hail from National parties, 17 are Independent candidates, and 5 from registered unrecognised parties, reflecting the plurality of voices in our democratic process.
Notably, the participation of women in the electoral process is limited, with two candidates, Ritu Singh of BSP and Rajinder Kaur of Sainik Samaj Party, demonstrating gender representation in politics.
The scrutiny of nominations will take place today. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till 3pm on May 17.
