State Opposition AIADMK has submitted a memorandum to Governor R.N.Ravi at the Raj Bhavan on the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy today. After being suspended from attending Assembly for a day, the Opposition members wearing black proceeded to Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor. After the session began today, the AIADMK Members demanded discussion on the Kallakurichi incident and called for postponing the Question and Answer section. Speaker Appavu told them that they can raise any issue during Zero hour and denied permission. But they continued with sloganeering after which the Speaker said that they would be suspended from attending the Assembly session for a week for creating a planned ruckus and hindering the everyday activities of the Assembly. Later Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said that as the voice of the Opposition should be recorded in the Assembly, he said that they may be suspended for a day and the Speaker accepted the appeal of the Chief Minister. In his speech he said that a one man commission has been set up by the Government and more than 20 of them have been arrested. He also said that an ex gratia relief amount of 10 lakhs rupees has been given to the families of the deceased. Stalin blamed the Opposition for trying to gain political mileage out of the issue. Leaders of political parties are visiting Kallakurichi and criticize the DMK Government even as bye elections for Vikravandi in Kallakurichi is to be held on 10th July.
