R Vaishali To Take On Tingjie Lei In 5th Round Of Norway Chess Tournament

India’s R Vaishali will take on Tingjie Lei of China in the fifth round of the Norway Chess tournament in Stavanger, Norway tonight. The Indian chess prodigy is currently leading the points table with a comfortable advantage of 2.5 points. She has largely benefitted from victories over compatriot Koneru Humpy and the Swedish veteran Pia Cramling in the Classical time control events.

Vaishali is way ahead of the women’s world champion Wenjun Ju of China and Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine, after amassing a total of 8.5 points from the first four rounds.

Meanwhile, another Indian, Koneru Humpy stands at the bottom of the table with only three points. She has not been at her best and her high point so far has been a win over Teingjie Lei. Humpy will face Anna Muzychuk in the fifth round tonight.
