Five of the six Indian wrestlers who secured spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics will compete in the Polyak Imre and Varga Janos Memorial tournament starting today in Budapest, Hungary.
The Indian team includes Antim Panghal, competing internationally for the first time since winning bronze in the 53 kg category at the Asian Games last year. Panghal is a two-time Under-20 world champion and World Wrestling Championships bronze medallist.
Two-time Olympian Vinesh Phogat, who qualified for Paris in the 50 kg category, will also compete. Joining her are under-23 world champion Reetika Hooda in the 76kg category and former Asian champion Anshu Malik in the 57kg category.
Aman Sehrawat, the only Indian male wrestler to secure a Paris quota, will play in the men’s freestyle event in Budapest.
