Over 13.50 lakh farmers benefited from ongoing Kharif Marketing Season procurement operations: Govt

The government has said that over 13 lakh 50 thousand farmers have already been benefited from the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season procurement operations with MSP value of 47,644 crore rupees. Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in a statement said that paddy procurement for Kharif Marketing Season 2022-23 is progressing smoothly in 13 procuring States and Union Territories. They include Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Haryana and Tamil Nadu.
Over 231 Lakh Metric Tonnes of paddy has been procured upto 10th of this month against the previous year corresponding purchase of about 228 Lakh Metric Tonnes. The Ministry said that the rainfall condition this year has been fairly good in the country and the production of paddy is expected to remain normal. The Ministry further stated that there is sufficient stock of food grains available under Central Pool to meet the requirement under National Food Security Act and Pradhan Mnatri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. It said that procurement in other States is also going to commence soon and all arrangements are in place for hassle-free procurement operations.
