Karnataka: Octogenarian farmer & Water warrior Kame Gowda from Dasanadoddi village, Mandya district passes away

The octogenarian farmer Kame Gowda from Dasanadoddi village in Mandya district of Karnataka has passed away today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had referred to him as a Water warrior in his Mann ki Baat programme. The Prime Minister had described Kame Gowda as a farmer with an extraordinary personality who single-handedly developed 16 lakes on a barren hillock near his village. The villagers are today enjoying the fruits of labour put in by Kame Gowda. The hillock is today green with grass and other saplings and has also recharged the groundwater.Kame Gowda was honoured with the Rajyotsava award and Basavashree award by the state government for his contribution to the environment. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has condoled the death of Kame Gowda and applauded his contributions towards addressing water problems in his village. Tweeting that he is saddened on hearing of the death, Mr. Bommai recalled the Prime Minister’s appreciation of the efforts made by Kame Gowda.
