In Jammu and Kashmir, the higher reaches received light to heavy snowfall during the last 24 hours, causing a dip in the day temperature. Nearly 70 passengers stranded after suspension of traffic on the Historic Mughal Road connecting twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division with Shopian district in Kashmir valley due to heavy snowfall in high altitude of Pir Ki Gali have been rescued and the road cleared of snow today.AIR Correspondent reports, the traffic on the road has been put on halt due to slippery road conditions. There was snowfall in high-altitude areas on Tuesday evening, leaving dozens of vehicles stranded between Pir Ki Gali and Poshana in Poonch district. A joint rescue operation by police and Army was launched around 9 PM to clear the stranded vehicles and passengers. Nearly 70 passengers of 28 vehicles including 15 Light Motor Vehicles have been rescued and evacuated to safer places today. Traffic Police authorities said that the national highway has been cleared of snow but traffic has not been allowed due to extremely slippery road conditions. However, the MeT department today said that mainly clear sky with chances of light rain was expected in the next 24 hours across the Union Territory of J&K. Jammu had recorded 16.8, Katra 14.2, Batote 6.5, Banihal 4.6 and Bhaderwah 4.9 as the minimum temperature. Srinagar had recorded 5, Pahalgam 0.6, and Gulmarg minus 0.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
