Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated that the Government is continuously making efforts to ease the situation in Manipur. Replying to the Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister underlined that Central and State Governments are in discussion with all the stakeholders to ensure peace and cordiality in Manipur. He highlighted that the Home Minister himself led the efforts of peace from the front by being in Manipur. He further added that even the senior officials were pressed into the task of finding solutions to the problems and ensuring peace. Prime Minister Modi emphasized that we must acknowledge the fact that the incidents of violence in Manipur are on a continuous downward trajectory. He informed the House that today, schools, colleges, offices and other institutions are functioning normally in Manipur.
During his reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister also expressed concern about the difficult flood situation in Manipur currently. He informed that two companies of NDRF are deployed for the flood relief work and the Central Government is closely working with the State Government in relief efforts.
The Prime Minister also hit out at the Congress calling it the biggest opponent of the constitution. Mr Modi alleged that Congress’ mindset is to oppose SC, ST and OBCs. He also accused the main opposition party of insulting former President Ram Nath Kovind adding that it left no stone unturned to also insult President Droupadi Murmu. Mr. Modi said that the constitution is not only a compilation of articles, but its spirit and words are valuable for the government. He said that the constitution is a lighthouse to give direction to the government.
Lauding the contribution of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Prime Minister said that the constitution is entering in the 75th year. During his speech, he hit out at those who opposed celebration of Constitution Day saying that it has become a people festival. The Prime Minister said people have voted NDA back to power as they have trust that the constitution will be safeguarded by the incumbent dispensation.
On the vision of the NDA government during its third term, Mr. Modi said that the fight against poverty will be the key agenda of the government and the country will emerge victorious against poverty. Mr. Modi said pace, depth and extension of the welfare schemes will be the top priorities of the government. He highlighted that the government is committed to make the country the third largest economy of the world in its third term. He said the country will witness massive change in the public transport system in the next five years.
He said, under the PM Kisan Samman Yojana, over 10 crore farmers have been benefited and over three lakh crore rupees have been disbursed to farmers in the last six years. He also said the country’s economy has reached the fifth spot from the tenth spot despite challenges posed by Covid pandemic. He said, the people supported the works done during the last ten years of this government and they have chosen performance. He said, after six decades, it happened that people have chosen any government for the third time in a row. On the issue of corruption, Mr. Modi asserted that Central agencies have been given free hand to act against graft cases.
When the Prime Minister was making the statement, the opposition parties including Congress, DMK, TMC, Aam Aadmi Party, RJD, Left and others created ruckus and came into the well. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar asked them to take back their seats. Later, the opposition parties walked out from the House. On the opposition’s walk out, the Prime Minister said, the opposition do not have courage to listen to the answers of those queries raised by them. He termed the walk out of opposition, an insult of the Upper House. The Chairman too expressed his displeasure over the opposition’s walk out.
Earlier, when the House met this morning, the discussion resumed on Motion of Thanks to the President’ address. Rwngwra Narzary of UPP(L) said, the North East region has flourished due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy. He said, peace has been brought in the region and several militant groups have signed peace treaties. He said Assam has also witnessed tremendous development under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The House paid tribute to the people who lost their lives in the tragic incident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh yesterday. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said loss of lives and injury in this tragic incident is painful and unfortunate. He said, all the necessary steps are being taken to provide medical aid to the injured. He said authorities have set up a committee to investigate the matter.
Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge suggested that law should be made to stop such kinds of incidents. He said, Union Home Minister must make a statement over the Hathras’ incident. On making a law to stop such incidents, the Chairman said, this is an important point raised by the Leader of the Opposition. He said, it will be an extremely healthy tradition that Treasury and Opposition benches get together to find solutions to prevent such incidents.
