For the first time ever, the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is expanding to other cities. Along with Mumbai, parallel screenings will take place in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune.
The main event kicks off on June 15th and runs through June 21st, 2024, at the National Film Development Corporation – Films Division premises on Pedder Road in Mumbai. For film lovers in Delhi, a parallel selection of films will be screened at Siri Fort Auditoriums 1, 2, and 3 from June 16th to June 20th. In Kolkata, screenings will be held at the iconic Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), while Chennai will host screenings at the NFDC’s Tagore Film Centre. Additionally, screenings in Pune will take place at the National Archives of India premises. Registration desks at each venue will facilitate walk-in attendee registrations, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
NFDC has partnered with Svayam, a not-for-profit organization, to ensure the MIFF is accessible to all cinephiles. Svayam has conducted comprehensive accessibility audits of the festival venues providing tailored solutions to enhance accessibility according to universal best practices. For the first time, the entire festival team will be sensitized and trained to foster a culture of inclusivity and empathy. Festival Director Prithul Kumar announced that MIFF will showcase accessible films with Indian Sign Language and closed captions for the hearing impaired, as well as films with audio descriptions for the visually challenged. Additionally, the film ‘Cross Over’ will feature live dance using Indian Sign Language.
The Special Package titled Divyangjan Films, which includes a selection of four films, will be screened on June 19, 2024, during the MIFF.
