The government today informed that it has spent 50 thousand crore rupees on the construction of houses under the In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) vertical of PM Awas Yojana (PMAJ) alone. Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal said the government’s primary aim is to ensure housing for all, and it will prioritize the allocation of funds to ISSR vertical if states propose such projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The government also informed that it has spent 46 thousand crore rupees on the Smart City scheme and plans to spend the remaining 2 thousand 4 hundred crore rupees by March 2025. Mr. Manohar Lal said that 100 cities were selected under the scheme to create model cities that can be replicated by others.
