President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Thursday (6th June 2024) congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his re-election over a phone call. She congratulated Prime Minister on the success in the general elections and conveyed her best wishes for a historic third term. She deeply appreciated the Indian democracy and the conduct of the world’s largest elections.
Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to President von der Leyen for her warm wishes and underlined the strong India-EU ties based on shared values and principles. He noted that this year marked the 20th anniversary of the India-EU Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed his commitment to continue to work for further strengthening the partnership for global good.
Prime Minister also received a telephone call from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. He thanked his Australian counterpart for his wishes and recalled his visit to Australia last year and his meeting with Mr Albanese on the sidelines of the G20 Summit last September in Delhi. Mr Modi reiterated his firm commitment to work together with the Australian Prime Minister to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and work closely on the shared priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.
