Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has directed – Yatra, an online Travel Platform to refund booking amount to consumers affected due to Covid-19 lockdown.
Consumer Affairs Ministry said, it has came to the notice of the CCPA through National Consumer Helpline that many grievances were lodged relating to non-refund of cancelled air tickets.
In 2020, the Apex Court had directed that if the tickets have been booked during the lockdown period through a travel agent, full refund shall be given by the airlines immediately.
It said, from July, 2021, to June, 2024, the CCPA conducted several hearings to address these issues. The CCPA said, Yatra Online Limited has made significant progress in reducing the total number of pending refund bookings.
It said, over 2.5 crore rupees is still pending for refund from Yatra and approximately 23 crore rupees has been refunded to the consumers.
