Kashmir receives fresh snowfall; Mughal Road closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the upper reaches of Kashmir have been receiving fresh snowfall and the plains lashing with rains since last evening and the temperature has consequently come down in the entire Valley. Gulmarg recorded sub-zero temperatures Tuesday night.As per the reports, fresh snowfall was recorded from the upper reaches of the world-famous hill station Gulmarg and other places including Pir Ki Gali on Mughal Road. Snowfall has also been recorded in Chandan wadi, Sheshnag on Shri Amarnathji track via Pahalgam route, Sinthan Top in Anantnag, Gurez in Bandipora, DH Hills in Kulgam, Sadna Top in Kupwara, Sonamarg in Ganderbal, Gurez in Bandipora and other higher reaches of the region.Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, was closed for traffic for the second consecutive day today due to heavy snowfall. Police said that the Mughal road will reopen once it is cleared of the accumulated snow as there is a considerable amount of snow on Mughal Road, especially in Pir Ki Gali where thickness is said to be around one foot.At Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh Highway, around one-foot snow has also been recorded resulting in its closure for vehicular traffic on the Highway by the authorities.
