New Delhi: Gujarat cadre IPS Rakesh Asthana has been appointed as the Director-General of the Border Security Force (BSF), according to a Personnel Ministry order issued on Monday.
IPS officer Rakesh Asthana is at present the Director-General of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in New Delhi.
He will continue as DG BSF until July 31, 2021, the date of his superannuation.
A 1984 batch IPS officer, Asthana also holds the additional charge of DG, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
After holding sensitive posts in Gujarat, Asthana was moved to the CBI in New Delhi, and later transferred to BCAS.
