External Affairs Ministry said that Indian High Commission in Maldives is extending all possible assistance to the affected Indians and their families in the Male fire incident. Replying to a media query on the incident, Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said Maldivian authorities confirmed loss of ten lives, and process of identification of deceased is ongoing. He called it a very unfortunate development and stressed that till the time that bodies are identified as Indian citizens, he would not like to confirm how many Indian have passed away. He added that initial reports indicate a fire in the building and Maldivian government has announced a thorough investigation on the matter.
