Delhi Water Minister Atishi has requested Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for an emergency meeting to discuss water scarcity in the national capital.
Ms Atishi said in a social media post that the meeting will be held to inform him about the alleged inadequate release of water by the Haryana government from the Munak Canal.
She added that as the representative of the Central Government, Mr Saxena will be asked to intervene and resolve the situation by taking note of the situation.
Ms Atishi claimed that Delhi is supposed to receive one thousand 50 cusecs of water from the Munak Canal, but the Haryana government is allegedly releasing only 840 cusecs of water.
Meanwhile, with piped supply affected in various residential areas, Delhiites continue to face severe water crises as queues were seen around water tankers in many areas.
Under an agreement between Haryana, Delhi, and the entire Upper Yamuna region, 1050 cusecs of water is allotted to Delhi through the Munak Canal. But, the water supply has been continuously decreasing and has fallen to 840 cusecs till Friday.
The record-high temperatures and heatwave in Delhi have caused an extraordinary and excessive surge in water demand in the city.
