Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was observed today at Sikkim Armed Police Ground, Pangthang in the presence of Sikkim governor Ganga Prasad and chief minister PS Tamang, among others.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad recalled the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in uniting different provinces for the integration of India. He underlined the role of security forces along borders and applauded the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India self-reliant.Chief Minister PS Tamang recalled Sardar Patel’s contribution to integration of the Indian union and said that Sikkim has been celebrating this national festival every year since 2014.He stressed the need to control drug abuse and narcotics trafficking and urged for a collaborative effort in this fight. The chief minister condoled yesterday’s untoward incident of a bridge collapse leading to the loss of many lives in Gujarat.Earlier, governor Ganga Prasad inspected the parade, took a Guard of Honour, and administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge to officials attending the programme.Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was also observed across all district headquarters in Sikkim.
