Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today said that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are undertaking eKYC aadhar authentication for LPG customers to remove bogus customers against whose name commercial cylinders are often booked by certain gas distributors.
Mr Puri said, this process is in place for more than 8 months. The Minister said this while responding to a letter from Kerala’s Leader of Opposition, V D Satheesan, claiming that LPG verification at gas agencies is causing difficulties for ordinary people.
Mr. Puri explained that during delivery, LPG personnel verify customer details using a mobile app that captures the customer’s Aadhaar information.
An OTP is sent to the customer to complete the process. He emphasized that there is no deadline for this process from either the OMCs or the Central Government and customers can even complete the process using OMCs’ mobile apps.
Mr Puri also informed that there is no mustering at LPG distributor showrooms.
Mr Puri added that Oil companies are also issuing a clarification to press in this matter for assuring the customers and ensuring that there is no inconvenience to any genuine consumer.
