Indian benchmark indices ended lower in the highly volatile session today. At close, the 30-stock index, Sensex was down 269 points or 0.35 percent at 77,210 and the Nifty was down 66 points or 0.28 percent at 23,501.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index down by 0.26 percent while the Small-cap index gained 0.06 percent.
11 out of 30 companies registered gains in the Sensex index. The top three gainers today were Bharti Airtel 2.32 percent, Infosys 1.08 percent and TCS 0.59 percent.
Conversely, the three major laggards were, Ultratech Cement 2.22 percent, Larsen and Toubro 1.78 percent and Tata Motors 1.74 percent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 13 out of 20 Sectors were in loss. The top three gainers were, Tele Communication sector 1.44 percent, Teck sector 1.01 percent and IT as well as Services sector 0.74 percent each.
Whereas, Oil and Gas sector 1.28 percent, FMCG sector 1.08 percent and Energy sector 1.02 percent were the three major laggards.
The overall Market breadth was positive. Out of 3,987 Companies, the shares of 1784 companies advanced, 2086 declined and 117 remain unchanged.
