Equity Indices Close Lower On Fag-End Sell-Off; Nifty Hits All-Time Peak Midday

Equity benchmark indices ended lower today as a fag-end sell-off wiped out early gains amid a mixed trend in global markets.
 
Snapping its two-day winning run, the 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 188.50 points or 0.25 percent to settle at 74,483. During the day, it had rose 440.11 points or 0.58 percent to 75,111.
 
The NSE Nifty fell 38.55 points or 0.17 percent to close at 22,605. In the afternoon trade, the NSE Nifty hit its all-time peak of 22,783.
 
From the Sensex basket, Tech Mahindra, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, HCL Tech and Sun Pharma were biggest laggards.
 
On the other hand, M&M, Power Grid Corporation, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were other major gainers.
 
In the broader market at the BSE, the Midcap sector jumped half a percent, while the Smallcap sector ended on a flat note.
 
In sectoral indices at the BSE, the Auto sector gained 1.70 percent, the Realty sector up by 1.46  percent and the power sector jumped 1.04 percent.
 
In contrast, IT sector fell 0.98 percent while Metal and Oil and Gas sector slipped 0.85 percent each.
