The 53rd GST Council meeting is underway in New Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is chairing the council meeting. The last GST Council meeting was held in October last year, during which amendments were recommended in the conditions for the appointment of the President and Members of the proposed GST Appellate Tribunals regarding eligibility and age. The council also recommended a nil rate for food preparation of millet flour in powder form, besides reducing GST on molasses to provide relief to cane farmers for faster clearance of dues and to reduce the cost of manufacturing cattle feed.
