BJP demands shutdown of schools in Delhi due to deteriorating air quality

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded the shutdown of all schools in the nation’s capital due to the deteriorating air quality in Delhi and the National Capital Region.Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta, while addressing a press conference at the state party headquarters this morning, said, Chief Minister Kejriwal should not play with children’s health and immediately close down the city’s schools.He added that if the Delhi government does not listen to the BJP’s demand, the party will come out on the streets to protest. Mr Gupta alleged that the health of the people of Delhi is deteriorating due to the Kejriwal government’s failure in controlling the pollution.Mr Gupta said, the Chief Minister should tell the public what he has done so far for controlling the pollution in the national capital. He said, he has already written to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena demanding closure of schools.As per IMD and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the air quality in the National Capital reeled under the severe category, as the index stood at 478 at 9 am today.SAFAR said, share of stubble burning in Delhi’s PM2.5 pollution jumped to 3-4 percent today. The agency said, in Noida, the AQI recorded at 562 while Gurugram’s AQI stood at 539.In view of the deteriorating air quality in the National Capital Region, schools in Noida and Greater Noida have been asked to hold classes online for students up to Class 8 till Tuesday, November 8.
