Emergency rescue teams pulled a father’s body from the New Jersey river on Wednesday evening after responding to a distress call.
Officials from Franklin Township said that a 42-year-old man from South River went into the Millstone River to help his children, who were in distress around 2:15 p.m.
A police press release stated, “The victim went into the water, pulled his children from the turbulent water, but struggled to maintain his balance.”
When the police arrived, they found three children, aged 8, 11, and 13, beside the river, but they could not immediately locate their father. The police said that emergency workers took care of the children, but they did not need additional medical care.
About three hours later, around 5:30 p.m., the dive team from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office located the man. They are withholding his identity until family notification. The police said they are investigating the clear circumstances of his drowning.
